Lecture in Department of Neurobiology and Behavior

We are interested in comprehending how the neuronal network develops and how the higher brain functions achieve integrated human behavior.  In order to find the answer to these questions, it is necessary to understand the special properties of neuron, the interaction between neurons, the local neuronal circuits modulated by neuronal groups, and finally, the functions of the whole brain system constructed by a number of local neuronal circuits.  The purpose of this program is to integrate each of these individual subjects.  The lectures are conducted in the style of a seminar.

Objectives of the course

1.           Various lectures cover the field of neuronal cell migration, neuronal morphology, synaptic formation, and synaptic plasticity.  In addition, Journal club provides the intensive reading of recent important papers from wide variety of journals.

2.           A special lecture covers significant findings at the cutting edge of modulatory mechanism of electrical signal propagation in neural local circuits.  It involves hippocampal network model and some interesting contents which are interdisciplinary or integrated substance covering between molecules to behavior.

Seminar in Department of Neurobiology and Behavior

This seminar course provides training in planning and carrying out a research project.  The program is given in the style of a tutorial.

Objectives of the course

1.           Students present his/her experimental results, and discuss with other students and instructors about the significance of the data, consistency of the data with previous findings, and experiments that are necessary to be done at the next stage.

2.           Students are trained in creating the experimental protocols for his/her research theme.

Research training in Department of Neurobiology and Behavior

This program is designed to provide one-to-one training on the basic experimental skills required in neuroscience research. The students are also trained in writing of scientific paper on the basis of experimental results.

Objectives of the course

1.           Each student is given onefs own research project.  Through this project, students are trained in various experimental techniques of molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, behavioral science and morphological analysis.

2.           Students are trained in scientific paper-writing using their experimental data.
